There Is Such a Thing as Beauty Sleep

If we do not get enough sleep, this is likely to affect the aging of our skin. 60 women between the ages of 30 and 49 participated in the study. Half were good sleepers, the other half poor sleepers. "Sleep deprived women show signs of premature skin aging," said Dr. Elma Baron, MD, one of the scientists behind the study. The researchers found marked differences between good and poor quality sleepers. Poor quality sleepers showed increased signs of skin aging including fine lines, uneven pigmentation and slackening of skin and reduced elasticity. The researchers found that good quality sleepers recovered more efficiently from stressors to the skin. Sleep is important to our overall wellbeing but also to how we look. In other words, it has now been scientifically proven that there is such a thing as beauty sleep.
